On 10 June 2025, the IEEE Malaysia ComSoc/VTS Joint Chapter, together with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), organized an industry visit to the my5G Portal in Kuala Lumpur, led by Chapter Chair Bruce Leow.
The visit brought together 31 students and three academic staff, offering them first-hand exposure to real-world 5G applications and career opportunities in telecommunications. The program kicked off with an insightful presentation by Kong Thien Lim, Head of Marketing at Ericsson, on the transformative impact of 5G on society. Guided by Ms. Nini Shaharin, participants explored over 50 use cases across 12 sectors from holographic communication and remote driving to connected ambulances and AI-powered workplace safety.

Participants explored interactive exhibits, including digital heritage displays like the immersive Terengganu Al-Quran showcase, highlighting how 5G enhances cultural preservation and education through augmented reality.
Students also enjoyed engaging hands-on experiences, including remotely driving a 5G-enabled RC car, learning human anatomy through VR, and playing real-time VR games. The my5G Portal, developed by Digital Nasional Berhad and Ericsson, serves as a dynamic hub that showcases the transformative potential of 5G across industries.

Excited participants queue patiently to experience 5G-powered innovations such as remote driving simulators, witnessing firsthand the ultra-low latency and real-time responsiveness enabled by next-generation connectivity.

Ericsson experts demonstrated real-world 5G use cases such as AI-driven workplace safety, smart street infrastructure, and remote surveillance during a guided tour of the my5G Portal.
